What’s one thing you can’t do without if you enjoy steak? Steak knives, of course! A Quick Explanation of Damascus Steel
Damascus steel is an especially strong type of steel that is made using several different layers of various types of steel, bound by heat treatments. In fact, what we refer to as Damascus steel today is actually a recreation of the original method that was established some time before the 1700s in ancient Syria. However, the process by which it was made got lost, and there was nobody around who could explain the method.
Thus, blacksmiths attempted to use artefacts that they had found from this era to figure out how it was made, and that’s how modern Damascus came about – the new process was dubbed “pattern welding”.
Pattern welding produces an incredibly strong, durable, and sharp metal, making it one of the best blade materials out there.
